Mark Quint: Give Me A Minute I’m Thinking
November 12–December 31, 2016
Collecting is the theme of this eclectic exhibition which Quint displayed to be a visual mash-up of low and high art, design, kitsch, decoration and craft. Gathered from swap meets, art galleries, flea markets, thrift stores, souvenir shops, art fairs, garage sales and auction houses the objects that Quint displayed reflected, in his opinion, a basic need of many people to search for the unique, even if the “unique” might be mass produced, in recycled plastic, made in China and come in 50 different colors.
Mark Quint grew up in La Jolla, went to the San Francisco Art Institute, taught art in Hawaii for 4 years and opened his first gallery in La Jolla in 1981. He has organized over 250 one person exhibitions of local, national and international artists. He attributes his collecting bug to a typical early introduction to collecting Lincoln pennies, postage stamps, marbles and matchbox cars.
