Joseph Clayes III Gallery
A visual feast featuring mixed-media works by Alberto Blanco, one of Mexico's most important poets and well known visual artists. Critical discussion and acclaim of Blanco's work abounds both in Mexico and abroad. In conjunction with the exhibition, a special lecture with Alberto Blanco, will take place in the Athenaeum’s Joan & Irwin Jacobs Music Room on Tuesday, February 22, 2011, 7:30 p.m. Admission is free for Athenaeum members and the public.
Rotunda Gallery
A show of mixed-media works by Tijuana-born UCSD open studio artist Omar Pimienta. The exhibition will explore memory from specific translation processes: from one language to another, image to text, concept to object. Featuring a large photo-assemblage of images taken during Pimienta's many passings through the U.S.-Mexico border, the exhibition will invite viewers to play an active role as they peel away photos one by one from the wall. A time lapse camera will document the comings and goings of visitors.
