First Associate Concertmaster Nathan Cole, who joined the LA Phil in 2011, has appeared as guest concertmaster with the orchestras of Pittsburgh, Minnesota, Houston, Ottawa, Seattle, and Oregon. Ben Ullery is Assistant Principal Viola of the Los Angeles Philharmonic, a position he has held since 2012. He has been featured in chamber music performances on NPR’s Performance Today as well as local broadcasts on K-USC in Los Angeles and Minnesota Public Radio, and has recorded chamber works for Bridge and Albany records. Robert deMaine is an American virtuoso cellist who has been hailed by The New York Times as “an artist who makes one hang on every note.” He has distinguished himself as one of the finest and most versatile instrumentalists of his generation, performing to critical acclaim as soloist, recitalist, orchestra principal, recording artist, chamber musician, and composer/arranger. A graduate of the University of Southern California, David Allen Moore continued his studies in Boston, working privately with Boston Symphony Orchestra’s principal bass Edwin Barker and performing with Boston Baroque, the Rhode Island Philharmonic, Emmanuel Music, and the Boston Pops Esplanade orchestra. Moore was a member of the Houston Symphony bass section under maestro Christoph Eschenbach, from before becoming a full-time member of the Los Angeles Philharmonic’s bass section in 2000. Boris Allakhverdyan was appointed Principal Clarinet of the Los Angeles Philharmonic in 2016. He previously served as Principal Clarinet of the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra and the Associate Principal Clarinet of the Kansas City Symphony. Mr. Allakhverdyan is a founding member of the Prima Trio, the Grand Prize and the Gold Medal winner of the prestigious 2007 Fischoff National Chamber Music Competition. One of Gustavo Dudamel’s first appointments to the Los Angeles Philharmonic was Whitney Crockett as Principal Bassoon. He came to Los Angeles after 12 years as Principal Bassoon of the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra under James Levine. Australian Andrew Bain was appointed to the Chair of Principal Horn of the Los Angeles Philharmonic by Gustavo Dudamel in May 2011. Prior to moving to Los Angeles, Andrew held positions of Principal Horn of the Melbourne Symphony, Queensland Symphony, Münchner Symphoniker, and the Australian Opera & Ballet Orchestra, and Associate Principal Horn of the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra.
