July 16–August 13 (5 Weeks, 10 Total Hours of Instruction)

We are pleased to offer this class online using Zoom video conferencing. This mimics, as closely as possible, what normally happens in our classrooms at the Athenaeum. In this time when many of us are experiencing anxiety and isolation, this format allows us to continue to provide enriching experiences of artistic growth and community building.

The technology to make this happen is quite simple. You only need a computer (phone or tablet) with a camera, microphone, and internet connection and we are here to help you should you experience any technical difficulties.

Once you register, look for an email with more information and detailed instructions in the week preceding the class start date.

Stay safe and be well! And thank you for your continued support of our school.

MATERIALS: Amazon has still been fairly quick for art supplies, but if you're having difficulty, just come with what you have of these recommended supplies: A large mixed-media sketchbook that can take water, but, because we will be doing a lot of sketching you won’t want purely watercolor paper. (I use Canson Mix Media, 11" x 14".) Black Micron pens 005 and 05 as well as 01 and thicker (or equivalents). If you’re thinking you have felt-tip pens to bring, know that it’s important to this process to also have really thin pens; thicker pens won’t have the same effects. Other: A thin gel or Flair pen that smears with water; watercolors (something easy like Prang); good #8, 10, or 12 round and 1" flat watercolor brushes; Strathmore 400 Series Visual Watercolor Journal, 140 lb., 9" x 12", cold press, wire-bound, 34 sheets—or whatever watercolor pad you feel comfortable with (including the Canson Mix Media if you don’t want to go to the extra expense); pencil; kneaded erasers
