La Jolla Studio
$250/270 (includes model one day)

MATERIALS: Faber-Castell PITT Artist Pens, waterproof, black. There’s a pack of four that has nib sizes superfine, fine, medium, and brush. (*Be sure they are not the four-pack that are thick pens used for calligraphy.) One 9˝ x 12˝ watercolor pad. Canson, 90 lb. is good.

Watercolor: If you have watercolors, just bring what you have. If you want to buy some, you can get the Prang brand, 16 standard-colors set or splurge and get a travel Winsor & Newton set, with professional colors. The sets usually come with a brush. I recommend you get an additional brush (round #6 or 8) and a square wash brush (1/2 inch). If you have tubes of paint, be sure to set up your palette before class. Bring a water container. Feel free to bring any pens or paper you would like to try. If you would like to get a travel water brush, Niji is the best brand. If you have a favorite photo of an animal, a person, or from your travels, and it’s a nice big, clear shot, bring it along; you may get a chance to paint it. For outdoors: bring a folding chair, hat, water bottle and sunscreen on the days we go outdoors.
