Discover the expressive potential of textile collage through an immersive, hands-on workshop exploring a wide range of materials and techniques. This workshop invites participants to work with paper, fabric, discarded materials, and stitching as an extension of drawing.
One of the most exciting aspects of collage is its accessibility—it is a forgiving and highly intuitive medium. No formal drawing skills are required; almost any material can be incorporated to create meaningful and visually compelling results.
Materials: Students Bring: a $25 materials fee paid to Gabriela; white or off-white cotton fabric or canvas (poplin shirt weight or 6 oz. canvas); recycled fabrics or clothing scraps, approx. 5” x 5” (thrift stores are great sources.
Acrylic Paints: 2 oz. each: red, blue, yellow, black, and white. Assorted brushes (round and flat); one chip brush (approx. 2” wide); scissors; pencil; old letters, photographs, memorabilia, or collage scraps; mixed-media paper (8.5"x 11”).
Other: Matte medium (8 oz.); paint palette or tray for mixing; black-and-white photocopies of images related to a theme (must be made with a laser printer to prevent bleeding when applying adhesive). The instructor will provide examples after enrollment.
Max students: 12
