Japanese stab binding is beautiful and elegant as well as practical. It is a great binding method for journals, photo albums, keep-safe books, or a blank sketch book. You will leave class with a finished book with hard covers—created using book board, book cloth, and decorative end papers—and acid-free pages, making it suitable to use as a journal or for sketching.
Materials: Cutting knife, stylus (for scoring), sharp pencils & a good eraser (Pink Pearl is good), glue (PVA & brush or small roller), 12” ruler, awl, scissors.
Optional/recommended: bench hook with cutting mat (9” x12” cutting mat size is ideal), bone folder. Materials will be provided to create the book. If you have pages with content that you would like to bind, we can communicate about the size via email prior to the day of class.
