The current revival of alternative photographic processes has opened a world of possibilities for making light sensitive images without a traditional darkroom. Artists and photographers are embracing the cyanotype process (aka blue printing) because of its exciting potential for combining traditional mediums, such as painting, printmaking, and collage, within their creative mixed-media practice.
Cyanotype 1.0 is an introductory workshop combining the basics of cyanotype, from mixing the light sensitive chemicals to coating on paper and contact printing using UV light. Participants will use botanicals and digital negatives to construct their images.
This workshop will provide you with the foundation to explore and refine your skill set for making a cyanotype, as well as how far you can push the resulting image through the photographic process and also with hand-applied mediums. It’s truly magical—making light-based images without a darkroom!
Save the date! Cyanotype 2.0 arriving Summer Term 2026!
