Learning when and how to use specific watercolor techniques can make a significant difference in achieving the effects you want in your work. The class meets for four sessions, with each session focusing on a different technique: (1) wet-in-wet painting, (2) applying and removing masking fluid, (3) puddling with flowers on hot press paper, and (4) scraping, sponging, and splattering to create a desert landscape. I will demonstrate each technique step-by-step and offer individual guidance as needed. Please bring your materials to the first class, especially black or Payne’s gray watercolor paint. Tube paints are recommended; please do not bring paint pans.
Materials: If you already own watercolor supplies, there is no need to purchase new materials—simply bring what you have. You will need hot press and cold press watercolor paper (approximately 9” x 12”), medium-sized round and flat brushes, a palette for mixing paint, a palette knife, a natural sponge, a quart-sized container for water, watercolor masking fluid and a pickup tool for removing it, and paper towels.
Max students: 15
