School of Bad Printing is a hands-on printing experience led by renowned printer Amos Paul Kennedy Jr., whose work is widely known for its bold social and political commentary.

Working with handset wood and metal type, oil-based inks, and inexpensive chipboard, Kennedy embraces imperfection, variation, and “bad printing” as a way to challenge ideas of taste, hierarchy, and technical precision. His vividly layered posters use typography as both message and medium—drawing from proverbs, quotes, and historical references to confront race, power, and artistic pretension.

During this interactive session at the Athenaeum Art Center Print Studio, participants will help Amos create posters while learning about his artistic practice, philosophy, and approach to text-based art. No prior printing or art experience is necessary. Participants will leave with a printed piece created during the workshop.

Very limited seating due to the intimate studio setting.

Email lmartinez@ljathenaeum.org if you are interested in attending.

The event will be in person at the Athenaeum Art Center. There are no physical tickets for this event. Your name will be on the attendee list at the front door. Doors open at 3:00 p.m.
