Live Painting Sessions with Jonathan Paul Parker

  • Athenaeum Art Center 1955 Julian Avenue San Diego, CA 92113 (map)

Saturdays, January 24 and January 31

11 AM–2 PM

During the run of All Shall Be Well, Jonathan Paul Parker will hold a series of live painting sessions in the gallery, inviting visitors into the unfolding process of his work. During these sessions, Parker will paint on site while engaging in informal conversation with the public, offering insight into his methods, influences, and decision making as each piece develops.

Parker approaches painting as an attentive, improvisational practice shaped by observation, pacing, and response. Drawing on Carl Jung’s concept of “active imagination,” he allows images and impulses to emerge through the act of making, treating the canvas as a receptive surface rather than a fixed plan. These sessions make visible the quiet revisions, pauses, and gestures that define his work.

Visitors are welcome to come and go, observe the process, and ask questions. The live painting sessions offer a rare opportunity to experience painting not as a finished object, but as a living exchange between imagination, material, and presence.

These sessions are free for everyone.
