Arend Hekma is a jazz guitarist from Orange County, California. He's played with Grammy-nominated saxophonist Aníbal Seminario in his big band and won the award for jazz performance from the renowned Laguna Beach Festival of Arts.

Isaac Satzman is an award-winning jazz drummer out of the San Francisco Bay Area. He's played with jazz greats like Alan Ferber, Chris Potter, Terell Stafford, and John Daversa. Satzman has been featured at festivals internationally—the Umbria Jazz Festival and Jazz à Vienne, among others. He's been recognized for his playing on multiple occasions, winning the Cheatham Prize twice for his outstanding musicianship in UCSD’s Jazz Ensemble.

Nathan Tatsuta is a jazz pianist and composer based in Southern California. While studying at the Orange County School of the Arts and Colburn Jazz Workshop—Tatsuta has toured with the Herbie Hancock Institute of Jazz, won Outstanding Piano awards from Jazz at Lincoln Center, and performed at Carnegie Hall.

Elliott Yaroslavsky is an acclaimed trumpeter based in the Seattle area. He has shared the stage with jazz greats such as Terrell Stafford and Marcus Printup. Yaroslavsky has been recognized for his musicianship across multiple programs and festivals.

Reuben Zinner is an accomplished and versatile bassist raised in the competitive Bay Area jazz scene. Zinner has worked as an electric and double bass instructor for young musicians, performed live for countless hours, and competed in numerous festivals and competitions.

Free admission. Reservations are not necessary, but seating is limited.

Concerts begin at 12 noon. Doors open at 11:50 AM. Last entry at 12:10 PM or once capacity is reached.

Free concerts at noon every Monday year-round . . . no wonder the Mini-Concerts are the longest-running and one of the most popular classical music series at the library! This series was founded by Glenna Hazleton in 1970 at the Athenaeum, and has been going strong ever since. The concerts feature both local and touring musicians, prize-winning students, university music faculty members, local chamber ensembles . . . and the repertoire also includes jazz, folk, and world music. There are no reservations, no tickets . . . just line up at the side door of the Athenaeum (near the Rotunda) before noon. Seating is first-come; first-served. Mini-Concerts take place every Monday at noon and last about an hour. Donations are always welcome!
