Wendy Greene
Ms. Greene holds a Master’s in Voice from New England Conservatory. In San Diego she has worked in the San Diego Opera Chorus, at St. James by the Sea, and at St. Paul’s Cathedral.
Ms. Greene is an adjunct professor of music at San Diego City College and Southwestern College. Ms. Greene directs The Goliards and performs with The La Jolla Renaissance Singers and a mariachi group.
Cathe Sobke
Cathe Sobke takes the term multi-instrumentalist to a new level! Ms. Sobke holds degrees in composition and music theory from SDSU. She grew up playing piano, clarinet, and guitar, and was introduced to early music during graduate studies about 25 years ago. Recently retired from teaching music at Southwestern College, she continues to teach privately, and enjoys performing in several early music groups, including The Goliards, Kensington Baroque Orchestra, Dolce Dolore, the Granada Consort, Musica Nova Antiqua, and Ensemble Lonato.
Ulla Sinz
Born and raised in Germany, Ms. Sinz began recorder studies at the age of seven with Renate Stollenberg at the Institute of Music Leverkusen (near Cologne). She performed with various recorder and mixed ensembles throughout Germany and won the third prize in the Young Musicians Competition (Jugend Musiziert). She continued her studies at the University of the Virgin Islands in Applied Reeds.
Since immigrating to the United States Ms. Sinz maintains a semi-professional status as a featured soloist, as well as being a co-founder of various ensembles. In 2019 She performed with Opera Neo in a production of Francesco Cavalli's opera La Calisto. Ms. Sinz currently performs with several local groups including Dolce Dolores, Ensemble Lonato, The Kensington Baroque Orchestra, and The Goliards.
Free concerts at noon every Monday from fall through spring . . . no wonder the Mini-Concerts are the longest-running and one of the most popular classical music series at the library! This series was founded by Glenna Hazleton in 1970 at the Athenaeum, and has been going strong ever since. The concerts feature both local and touring musicians, prize-winning students, university music faculty members, local chamber ensembles. . . and the repertoire also includes jazz, folk and world music. There are no reservations, no tickets . . . just line up at the side door of the Athenaeum before noon. (Donations are always welcome!) Mini-Concerts take place every Monday at noon and last about an hour.
The concerts will be in person at the Athenaeum Music & Arts Library. There are no physical tickets for these events. Doors open at 11:50 a.m. Seating is first-come; first-served. These events will be presented in compliance with State of California and County of San Diego health regulations as applicable at the time of each concert.
