12 PM

Guitarist, composer and arranger, Patrick Berrogain first became exposed to the music of Django Reinhardt and the musette repertoire at a young age while growing up in the south of France.  It was not until living in San Diego, however, that he formed his own Gypsy jazz group Hot Club of San Diego with fellow ex-patriate and rhythm guitarist, Alain Cola.  In addition to Gypsy jazz, Patrick is well-versed in many styles and has had extensive performance experience in California and abroad making for a unique and varied career.

Before moving to Los Angeles to study jazz at the Musicians Institute of Technology, he toured the world with an Italian pop/rock band, Delta Landa.  Upon graduating in 1985 with special mention, he moved to San Diego.  In addition to performing with Hot Club, Patrick also performs regularly as a solo artist and with his son and  vocalist Rosemary Watson

Patrick has been a featured guest on San Diego Jazz station KSDS.  Some of his credits include performances at Django Fest LA, Django Fest San Francisco, and concerts at the Musicians Institute in the US and Europe.  He’s toured with Gypsy guitarist Angelo Debarre, performed with Jazz legend Anita O'Day, and opened for Al Dimeola with his fusion jazz band, The "French Connection."

Vocalist and entertainer Rosemary Watson and her 19-year-old son, guitarist Dexter Berrogain, seamlessly blend, jazzy pop, bossa nova, and R&B into a stylistically fresh yet timeless sound.

Rosemary, a seasoned performer, comedian and impressionist (even Martha Stewart follows her on Instagram!), has graced stages from national TV to The Kennedy Center, where she performed at the request of her idol, comedy legend, Carol Burnett. Dexter’s sophisticated musicianship and songwriting prowess showcase a depth well beyond his years. He learned to play at a young age from his dad, Patrick Berrogain, an accomplished jazz and Gypsy jazz guitarist. Dexter is also a signed model with The Wilhelmina Agency.

Based out of San Diego, Sunshine began performing covers professionally in 2023 and started writing original music in 2024. Their first three singles are out now and available on all streaming platforms or for purchase.

Free concerts at noon every Monday year-round . . . no wonder the Mini-Concerts are the longest-running and one of the most popular classical music series at the library! This series was founded by Glenna Hazleton in 1970 at the Athenaeum, and has been going strong ever since. The concerts feature both local and touring musicians, prize-winning students, university music faculty members, local chamber ensembles. . . and the repertoire also includes jazz, folk, and world music. There are no reservations, no tickets . . . just line up at the side door of the Athenaeum before noon. (Donations are always welcome!) Mini-Concerts take place every Monday at noon and last about an hour.

The concerts will be in person at the Athenaeum Music & Arts Library. There are no physical tickets for these events. Doors open at 11:40 a.m. Last entry is at 12:10 p.m. or once capacity is reached. Seating is first-come; first-served. Reservations are not necessary, but seating is limited.
