HOME / EVENTS / JAZZ / FRIENDS OF JAZZ

We are excited to share that Athenaeum Jazz will return this fall with four concerts at the library and at Scripps Research—a local debut by three-time DownBeat pianist of the year, Grammy-winner Kris Davis and her top NYC-based trio; Athenaeum-favorite, guitarist-composer Anthony Wilson’s newest music for his nine-piece ensemble; a return visit by France’s swinging gypsy-jazz giants, the Django Festival Allstars, joined by scintillating jazz vocalist, Veronica Swift; and dynamic drummer Matt Wilson’s inimitable holiday ensemble, the Christmas Tree-O.

Our winter concert series will feature a San Diego debut by one of the leading artists on the Brazilian music scene, virtuosic mandolinist Hamilton de Holanda; another local debut by award-winning L.A.-based pianist Paul Cornish, a Blue Note Records artist and member of Joshua Redman’s band; and a return visit by the stunning Norwegian jazz ensemble the Tord Gustavsen Trio. With all of this, there are still many more to be announced.

The Athenaeum Friends of Jazz is a group of individuals who contribute especially to support the Athenaeum’s jazz music programming.
