This eight-week workshop style course introduces students to the art of silk-screen printmaking and is designed for students who are just starting their exploration of printmaking as well as students with prior experience. You will create vibrant, multicolor prints using water-based silk-screen materials while exploring your own style and applying this popular method to your own ideas.
We will explore applications that are rooted in graphics and metaphorical interpretations of existing imagery, and we will focus on creative use of the production of multiples. The direct on-screen stencil techniques, such as use of screen filler/drawing fluid or wax crayon, as well as indirect photo-emulsion methods of drawing on acetate will be shown, and digital file preparation will be explored. For advanced students, this class will explore digital image applications, transparency preparation, halftone methods, separations, and advanced registration techniques.
A variety of mixed-media approaches will be covered. Students will explore how to set up their own DIY studio and will learn all aspects of preparation, setup, and production of fine art prints.
Students can register for a single session on Mondays or Wednesdays or both the Monday and Wednesday sessions. No prior experience with printmaking is necessary.
Materials: Ink and studio materials will be provided with the materials fee paid to the instructor. Students are responsible for paper and screen frames.
Max students: 8
