Frol Boundin was born in 1974, in Leningrad (St. Petersburg, Russia), where he received his initial artistic training in the traditions of social realism from his grandfather, the painter Victor Boundin, and at the Leningrad School of General Arts. After moving to the United States, he received his BFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago in 2000. Boundin lived and worked in Chicago for 10 years, focusing on large-scale abstract paintings and prints, collaborative installations, and graphic design projects. In 2013, he earned an MFA from the University of New Mexico. After teaching printmaking for four years at the University of South Carolina, Boundin relocated to Southern California, where he opened a private studio, Rosewood Press, specializing in intaglio and monotype printmaking, digital photography, and book arts. Recent exhibitions include Atlanta Print Biennale, Beyond Printmaking, the Boston Printmakers Biennale, and two critically acclaimed solo shows, Last Monuments, at Albuquerque’s Society for Contemporary Art, and Etchings, Monoprints, Series, at Sea Islands Art Center, Beaufort, South Carolina. Most recently his work was featured in the Artists on Art program at the El Paso Museum of Art, the 701 CCA South Carolina Biennial 2018, Art Fields 2018, and others.
