Linoleum block printing (or linocut) is a relief printmaking technique where you carve a design into a linoleum sheet, apply ink to the raised areas, and press it onto paper or fabric. The uncarved areas take the ink, while the carved-out sections remain the color of your background.
Create art in the moment in this LINO BLOCK, REDUCTION PRINT, workshop. Using lino blocks, carving tools and the process of reduction, (removing roughly a 1/3 of the surface area for each new color), you will create interesting and innovative prints.
CLASS OUTLINE:
First we will start out by sketching out some abstract designs, Linear & Organic, next we will apply one color to the block and make a set of prints, then we will reduce the block by another 3rd of its surface area and apply a second color, adding those on top of the first set of prints, creating different color layered prints. We will also experiment with applying the prints to colored/textured papers as bases for the prints.
CLASS OUTCOME:
This DIY, Table-Top printing process makes it easy to produce beautiful, one-of-a-kind artworks with amazing colors and textures with-out having to use a printing press, and allows you to create stunning layered prints, for art journal/sketchbook pages, greeting cards, or just stand alone art pieces.
Lino block printing is the perfect medium for beginners and experts alike. Exciting results can be obtained quickly, and simple variations give each print its own unique personality.
