The series continues Saturday, August 7, with the Jeff Hamilton Trio, featuring Hamilton on drums, Tamir Hendelman on piano, and Jon Hamar on bass. One of the leading drummers in jazz, Jeff Hamilton is known for his mastery of swing and an infectiously inventive approach to the music that has led to associations with Oscar Peterson, Ray Brown, Monty Alexander, Ella Fitzgerald, the Count Basie Orchestra, Rosemary Clooney, Lionel Hampton, Woody Herman, and many more. He has been featured on nearly 200 recordings with an even longer list of top-level artists. Hamilton is active as co-leader of L.A.’s Clayton/Hamilton Jazz Orchestra and as a frequent member of Diana Krall’s ensembles. But his trio has been a major focal point of his musical career for the past 25 years, as documented on the group’s 10 critically-acclaimed CDs including 2018’s Live from San Pedro. Jazz in Europe wrote, “master drummer Jeff Hamilton has long carried the torch for driving swing while at all times maintaining exquisite taste… This trio is tight, living proof of the chemistry between these three equal partners.” Of award-winning Tamir Hendelman, who holds down the piano seat in the trio, JazzTimes wrote, “his playing is firmly in the tradition of Peterson, particularly in regard to its strength and swing.”
