The powerful actresses we see now owe a great debt to some of the women who came before them and blazed a trail. Mae West was 40—the age many actresses found themselves being retired from the screen—when she made her first movie, plus she wrote her own material. Norma Shearer ruled as Queen of MGM for decades, while Carole Lombard and Jean Arthur came to define the effervescent energy of screwball comedies. Join Beth Accomando in celebrating the legacy of these stellar women with a quartet of amazing and delightful films. Weekly trivia and prizes too.

In August, film critic and scholar Beth Accomando will return to host Flicks on the Bricks. This year we’re celebrating the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Warner Brothers studio, and Beth has a stellar lineup of films to showcase the studio’s long history of American filmmaking.

Guests are invited to join us on the outdoor patio for balmy summer nights and screenings of classic cinema al fresco. Series tickets for the open-air theater include three memorable films. This year the film series are curated and presented by KPBS film critic, arts reporter, and host of the Cinema Junkie podcast, Beth Accomando. She also programs films for Film Geeks San Diego.
