‘Remembrance’: New public mural installed in La Jolla

The Murals of La Jolla project’s latest commission, a collaboration with the Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego, is an homage to queer art and cultural memory.
A comment on culture in a familiar setting, the latest Murals of La Jolla commission, is now installed above the southeast corner of Cuvier Street and Coast South Boulevard, a new site atop the south-facing edge of the Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego.
“Remembrance,” by Los Angeles-based artist Joey Terrill, is an image the artist created in 1989 of himself and his then-partner Robert Ward in a garden setting of cacti and succulents; the figures are carrying bouquets of gladiolas and birds of paradise, the official flower of Los Angeles.
