28th Anniversary Season, 2017–2018

This year the Athenaeum presents six award-winning ensembles. Each of these ensembles is new and each has already generated huge international “buzz.” Sometimes new ensembles take decades to gel and to perform music that is not just played but is truly a joy to listen to, as well as perform. Then there is that rare ensemble that gels immediately and is, within a few years, claiming top awards and winning the most prestigious competitions, straight out of the gate. Each of the six ensembles we have chosen this year has received top press from publications like the Strad and The New York Times. These ensembles are sure to be front and center in the future of Chamber Music. Come to the Athenaeum and hear the very best ensembles of the future.

Enjoy chamber music as it was intended—in a warm, intimate setting, where you are treated as a guest in our historic home. All concerts are followed by a private reception with the artists.

These concerts are made possible in part, thanks to funding from the City of San Diego through a program managed by the Commission for Arts and Culture and the County of San Diego.
