THE TALK OF THE TOWN
OLD HOLLYWOOD EDITION
Annual Benefit Celebration
Friday, May 3, 2024
Open bar and delicious delights
1930s classic Hollywood attire suggested
Ever dreamed of partying in the glitz and glamour of 1930s Hollywood? After the rousing success of our first Talk of the Town set in the 1920s, we hope you will join us as we celebrate the next decade of Athenaeum history with Old Hollywood sizzle and style.
Get inspired by the vintage glamour of actors, characters, directors, designers, artists, and musicians from 1930s classics like The Wizard of Oz and A Star Is Born. Will you wear the dramatic silks and satins of Jean Harlow and Mae West? Or the refined suits and sweaters of Clark Gable and Cary Grant?
But the party won’t be all style and no substance! Dance and swing the night away like Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers to the sounds of live big band music. Wander through the halls of dazzling art collected by the Athenaeum over the decades. And as you wander, nibble on delicious delicacies or sip on an old fashioned worthy of the finest Old Hollywood hot spots like the Biltmore or the Brown Derby.
Our VIPs will be invited to arrive early and walk the red carpet in style. Each VIP will receive the movie star treatment with exclusive champagne, cocktails, and delicacies. VIPs will also get a first look at the variety of exciting silent auction offerings.
Hors d'oeuvres and buffet dinner will be provided by Pronto Catering by Giuseppe.
Attendance will be limited, so if you want to be a part of the glamourous premiere of the second Talk of the Town annual benefit celebration, get your tickets now!

Talk of the Town 2024
Corporate Sponsorship & Underwriting Opportunities
For 124 years, the Athenaeum Music & Arts Library in La Jolla has served the San Diego community offering a robust array of cultural programs. Our annual fundraiser, The Talk of the Town, to be held on May 3rd, 2024, is our major benefit event of the year and one of the community’s most popular events. This glamourous evening will feature a reception, auction, and entertainment all set in the classic Hollywood era of the 1930s.
All proceeds from this event support the library’s operating funds as well as concerts, art and music appreciation lectures, fine arts classes and exhibitions, and our growing library collections.
We hope you will consider being a sponsor in support of this event. The Talk of the Town is an excellent opportunity to increase your exposure to our members and the Athenaeum’s community at-large.
We appreciate confirming your participation by January 31. Please do not hesitate to contact the Athenaeum team with any questions you may have regarding a donation or the event.
Thank you for your consideration!
