LENORE TAWNEY

Fiber-Collage-Assemblage

March 29–April 26, 1997

The weavings, collages, and assemblages of revolutionary fiber artist Lenore Tawney were exhibited. During the 1950s and 1960s, this artist invented techniques that changed the craft of weaving with her loose, airy style. Her exhibition included two large-scale weavings, in addition to many smaller ones, and a collection of 21 postcards, which were arranged in the Athenaeum’s display case, located in the Music Room.
