INSITE_05 PREVIEW

April 2–May 7, 2005

This exhibition documented the complex and intricate artistic and curatorial processes that comprised inSite_05. For more than ten years, inSite has actuated and supported the realization of artistic projects in the San Diego-Tijuana region, focusing on stimulating practices that explore and challenge our understanding of the terms “public,” “urban,” and “border.” Today, inSite is internationally recognized as one of the most innovative and socially- and artistically-engaged events within the contemporary art world. Open Ended/inSite_ 05 Preview was held concurrently at the Athenaeum Music & Arts Library, La Jolla and the Cultural Institute of Baja California, Tijuana. The exhibition brought together documentation of InSite_05’s two-year process of periodic artists’ residencies, dialogues and lectures, curatorial discussions, and events. Open Ended/inSite_05 Preview provided an introduction to the commissioned projects that were open to the public, in San Diego and Tijuana, from August 26 through November 13, 2005.
