Oil on canvas paintings in a small format were created especially for this exhibition. The was the third showing of the artist’s work at the Athenaeum. Händler showed his sketchbooks of landscapes, portraits, and still-lifes. In a vein similar to that of Harry Sternberg, Händler often includes his own portrait within the painting. His face is visible in the background, always watching.
