BILL KELLY, MICHELE BURGESS, AND JAMES RENNER

Brighton Press: artists in progress

November 18, 1995–January 6, 1996

A collaborative exhibition of works by Bill Kelly, Michele Burgess, and James Renner — artists who produce one-of-a-kind artists’ books and limited editions through the fine arts press, Brighton Press. The artists’ book Loess, with text by poet Jane Tassi, was created specifically for this exhibition, and was subsequently accessioned into the Athenaeum’s collection. Burgess exhibited a cast-bronze sculpture, oil paintings, watercolors, and her recent artists’ book, When There Were Trees. Kelly exhibited mixed-media drawings, oil paintings, a series of combined paintings and sculptures, and his artists’ book, Force=Equal. Renner showed assemblage sculptures, gouache paintings, and a mixed media artists’ book, The Iodine Horse.
