Flutist Rachel Beetz to head an elemental new music concert

Flutist Rachel Beetz is not yet 30, but she’s already a veteran champion of contemporary classical and new music. She is also a 2015 recipient of the prestigious Listhus Skammdegi Air Award, which saw her do a three-month artist residency in Ólafsfjörður, Iceland. Her Friday night La Jolla Athenaeum concert with cellist Jennifer Bewerse, pianist Kyle Adam Blair and percussionist Dustin Donahue will feature works by John Cage, Peter Ablingerand others. It will also include the world premieres of new compositions by Samuel Dunscombe and Michael Pisaro. The concert’s theme is elemental, literally, with pieces inspired by water and drought.
